South Florida PBS Health Channel is the proud recipient of the 2022 Sharing Care Award for its entry Hope Is Here: Episode 4 – Gina’s Story. Established by Sharecare (Nasdaq: SHCR) in association with The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter (NY NATAS), the Sharecare Awards promote and reward excellence for the best productions and programming in health and well-being.
Each year, the program bestows the Sharing Care Award to the finalist who receives the most votes from the general public. Finalists and winners in each category are selected by the esteemed Academy of Judges, a multidisciplinary group of leaders and experts in health and media programming. There are 15 categories that span important areas of health and wellness including chronic conditions, behavioral health, activism, and COVID-19 care and response. The Sharecare Awards recognize best-in-class productions and programs that promote well-being and embody the spirit of “sharing care.”
Episode 4 of Hope Is Here shares the story of Gina Hollenbeck, a young mother of two boys who lives with an optimistic desire to overcome and thrive despite a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. She forges ahead towards a vibrant and meaningful journey with a mission to help find a cure for not only herself but for others who suffer from this deadly disease. This episode is part of a six-part series that features inspiring and refreshing personal stories told by lung cancer survivors and loved ones of those who lost the first against this “emperor of all maladies” and sparked a movement that adds added meaning to their lives. The stories highlighted in Hope is Here are based on Bonnie J. Addario’s book, The Living Room, which focuses on the impact of lung cancer on the lives of its victims. Mrs. Addario’s personal lung cancer story is shared in episode one of Hope is Here.
Sharecare President, Dawn Whaley, announced the prize with the following, “The Sharecare Awards seek to honor those who inspire us with high impact productions in health media. The Sharing Care award takes that a step further by paying homage to the program that touched not only our hearts, but all of yours as well. This award is very special, because it is the only award where the public gets to decide. The production we’re proud to celebrate today inspires us all to keep fighting, to always view the positive, and to help others whenever possible. The recipient of the 2022 Sharing Care award goes to South Florida PBS’ Health Channel for Hope is Here: Episode 4. This piece tells the incredible story of a mom with two young boys, who despite having stage four lung cancer, continues to live with optimism. She is fighting for a cure while fighting for her life. I am so honored to present you with this award. Thank you for this significant work, and congratulations.”
