The Alhambra Orchestra, led by rtistic Director Daniel Andai, presents the three amazing young winners of its annual concerto competition for South Florida middle and high-school students on Saturday, Feb. 1, 7:30 p.m., in the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, 10910 SW 17th St.
Admission is free and no tickets or reservations needed.
• Michael Li, a 14-year-old violin student from Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, will perform the dazzling Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto no. 5.
• Eleven-year-old pianist Lilah Hahn, from West Palm Beach, will present a piano concerto by Emilie Mayer, a prolific German composer of Romantic-era music, sometimes called the “female Beethoven.”
• Violist Raul Rodriguez, a senior at West Broward Preparatory School, will perform the Walton Viola Concerto, a modern viola showpiece.
The Alhambra Orchestra also will perform Wagner’s exciting Overture from Die Meistersinger, and Slavonic Dance no. 4 by Dvorak.
