Since Katherine Rojas was little she loved to read, Now this senior at St. Brendan High School has channeled that passion into writing and a possible career path at age 17.

Katherine was fortunate to meet Ana Rodriguez-Soto, editor of the Florida Catholic, at the St. Brendan High School’s annual career day last school year. Upon approaching Rodriguesz-Soto after her presentation, Rojas asked if they offered internships and was given contact information. Impressed by Rojas’ courage to follow through in asking for an internship, she was given the opportunity this past summer to assist in editing stories.

Rodriguez-Soto was so “impressed by the quality of Rojas’ writing and her knowledge of grammar and style” that she gave Rojas leave to go out and report on two stories.

Mary Ross Agosta, director of communications at the Archdiocese of Miami, also noted that “Her [Rojas’]confidence is outstanding as are her writing skills. Ten minutes after her first press release was sent to the media calls came into the office for follow-up coverage.”

The St. Brendan High School senior would love to go to college in the New York area and pursue a degree in English and/or journalism.

Rojas’ “can do” attitude coupled with her summer internship experience will be invaluable tools as she pursues her college and career dreams.
