Miami-Dade County Commission vice chair Anthony Rodriguez has announced the second annual veterans’ Stand Down — an initiative dedicated to celebrating and supporting America’s veterans and active-duty military personnel.

On Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo Center, Fuchs Pavilion, 10901 SW 24 St., Miami, FL 33165.

Stand Down is a free, public event featuring a fun, exciting, and competitive obstacle course for high school juniors and seniors, JROTC, and Senior ROTC, presented by various military branches. Homeless veterans will have access to free haircuts, showers, and meals, while veteran families can connect with over 80 state, county, and private agencies.

The event also will showcase a full county circuit court with county judges hearing cases. Attendees can enjoy music, food trucks, and military vehicle exhibits.

Geared toward creating a sense of community, Stand Down aims to offer over 80 resources and services to veterans, active duty personnel and their families, as well as the general public.

Key organizations such as the DMV, Social Security Administration, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Florida Department of Children and Families, U.S. Department of Defense, and more will be providing services from hard-to-reach organizations and departments.
