Sweet Tomatoes, an award-winning restaurant specializing in made-fromscratch soups and salads, raised $5,200 for the YMCA of Greater Miami during its preview fundraising event in August.
Now open, Sweet Tomatoes’ 45-foot salad bar offers fresh, seasonal vegetables and tossed salads, made-from-scratch soups and handcrafted muffins, focaccia, breads and desserts. Guests dined at Sweet Tomatoes’ new Kendall location in The Palms at Town & Country, and paid just $5 for an all-you-can-eat experience, of which Sweet Tomatoes donated 100 percent to the YMCA of Greater Miami.
The YMCA a non-profit that provides programs — child care, sports, before and after-school care, aquatics, day camps, teen programs, adult fitness and senior programs — in four family centers, three preschools, and more than 60 elementary and middle schools, and park locations throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
“The pre opening fundraiser was a great success for the restaurant and the Y,” said Hector Inchaustegui, general manager of Sweet Tomatoes. “We love the mission of the organization and are excited that we are able to give back to the community with the help of all of our guests during the three-day event.”
The new Kendall restaurant will be the ninth location in the Southeast Florida region and will accommodate 160 guests. Sweet Tomatoes offers a rotating menu of more than 100 original, made fresh daily recipes featuring signature salads, soups, bakery goods and hot pasta sauces, at an all-you-care-to-eat price. All food is prepared without the use of artificial flavors, colors, additives or artificial trans fats. A different food theme is featured each month and the most popular menu items are rotated every two weeks.
Sweet Tomatoes seeks to be a vital and contributing part of each community it operates. To reach this goal, restaurants offer a “Fun-Raiser” program through which charities, churches, schools, athletic teams, Scout troops and other non-profit organizations may raise funds by hosting in-store events. The non-profits are invited to hold a special event in a Sweet Tomatoes restaurant and a portion of all event sales will be donated back to the non-profit. The restaurants assist in marketing the nonprofit’s event by creating master flyers for distribution and promotion. In addition, Sweet Tomatoes restaurants are encouraged to participate in the community on a local level by means determined appropriate by restaurant management.
Sweet Tomatoes in Kendall is now open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sundays.
