The 16th Annual Children’s Trust Family Expo was a resounding success, drawing thousands of South Florida children and families looking to prepare for the upcoming school year. The events took place on Saturday, July 27, at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens and Saturday, August 3, at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus.

This year’s Family Expo events, which are Miami-Dade’s largest free family resource fairs, featured both indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring comfort and entertainment for all attendees, and for the second consecutive year. The Trust partnered with Uber to provide free ride-sharing services, making it easier for families to attend the events.

The Children’s Trust Family Expo continues to offer an invaluable opportunity for parents and families to connect with a wealth of resources. Attendees were able to connect directly with after-school programs and other low cost or free services and to learn more about children’s nutrition, injury prevention, caring for children with special needs and more. Children enjoyed multiple activities, including a Fun Zone with soccer and fitness activities, face painting, photo booths, arts and crafts, character show  and much more.
“Parents often have little time to seek resources and prepare their children for the new school year, especially when juggling work and other responsibilities. The Family Expo brings everything they need under one roof, making it easy for them to access vital information and support,” said James R. Haj, president & CEO of The Children’s Trust.

Thanks to the partnership between The Children’s Trust and Uber, families were able to access Uber Vouchers good for up to $15 each way during the hours and days of the Family Expos. “Uber is proud to partner with The Children’s Trust for the second year, focusing on giving free rides to families to get to and from the annual Family Expo. Investing in the future of our bright young minds and supporting their families can all start with a ride,” says Javier Correoso, Head of Public Policy & Communications for Uber – United States South Region.

Family favorites that returned this year included the UHealth Jackson Urgent Care Teddy Bear Clinic, where children could play doctor with adorable teddy bears, and the UM pediatrics mobile unit, funded by The Children’s Trust, that offered free back-to-school vaccines. Additionally, children received 6,600 free book bags and school supplies in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Florida Memorial University was honored to host the Family Expo on our campus for the second consecutive year. The community acknowledges and commends The Children’s Trust and its partners for unwavering support in providing a free family fun day for the residents in Miami Gardens and beyond,” said William C. McCormick, Jr., Interim President of Florida Memorial University.

“Miami Dade College is proud to partner closely with The Children’s Trust, as both organizations share a deep commitment to uplifting students and families in our community,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega. “The Family Expo exemplifies our collaborative efforts to ensure every student is set up for success ahead of the new school year.”

The Family Expo was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including EdFed Credit Union, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Xfinity, Baptist Health, Jackson Health System, City National Bank, Behavioral family Solutions and The Miami Herald.
