The Education Fund invites the community to the annual Art of Found Objects exhibition, where Miami-Dade County public school students and teachers showcase extraordinary artistic creations made from donated surplus materials.

The exhibition runs from April 11 through May 2, 2025, at Miami Dade College’s Hialeah Campus (1776 W. 49th St.). The Art of Found Objects celebrates the innovation born from The Education Fund Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials, which has contributed more than $28 million worth of materials into public school classrooms since its inception.

“For the entirety of my teaching career, there has never been a more valuable source of materials than The Education Fund Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials,” said Michael Flaum, Jack D. Gordon Elementary art teacher.

The 2025 Art of Found Objects exhibition is presented by Ocean Bank, with generous support from the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, The Kirk Foundation, Peacock Foundation, Lynn & Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation, Knight Foundation, Amazon, and The Children’s Trust.

Two Special Categories Celebrate Creativity

This year’s exhibition introduces two special categories. “Celebrating 40 Years of Miami” invites teachers and students to create art that celebrates Miami’s unique culture and vibrant atmosphere, commemorating The Education Fund’s 40th anniversary. The second category, “We Love Yarn,” sponsored by The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, challenges participants to craft intricate works of art using yarn in various formats.

Hurricane Andrew’s Silver Lining

Since its founding in 1985, The Education Fund has implemented multiple programs that benefit Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ PreK-12 students. In the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, in 1993, The Education Fund partnered with Ocean Bank to get much-needed supplies to teachers and students across the county.

“What began as an emergency response to Hurricane Andrew has evolved into a 33-year partnership that Ocean Bank is incredibly proud of,” said Jeanelle Boscan, SVP and Head of Human Resources and Marketing of Ocean Bank and a board member of The Education Fund. “We’ve helped The Education Fund distribute more than $28 million in donated resources—paper, pens, markers, books, and countless other supplies—to more than 4 million students across Miami-Dade County. We applaud The Education Fund for its continuing efforts to make these essential learning tools accessible to teachers and students in every corner of our community.”

Linda Lecht, President of The Education Fund, added, “For 40 years, we’ve worked to ensure every student has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive, and the Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials has been a cornerstone of that mission.”

New Satellite Center in Southwest Miami-Dade

The Education Fund recently expanded its reach with a new center in Southwest Miami-Dade, ensuring that teachers throughout the county have access to these vital resources.

“The Kirk Foundation has supported the work of The Education Fund for decades because they deliver on their promises,” said Rosa Santiago, president of The Kirk Foundation. “We saw the need for additional resources in the area as South Dade’s population has boomed. With The Education Fund’s new satellite of The Education Fund Ocean Bank Center, more teachers and their students in Southwest Miami-Dade will have easier access to supplies they might not be able to access otherwise.”

40th Anniversary Celebration

The Art of Found Objects exhibition is part of The Education Fund’s 40th anniversary celebration, culminating with the For the Love of Art Annual Charity Auction & Public School Alumni Achievement Honoree Celebration on May 20, 2025. Some artwork featured in the exhibition will be auctioned at For the Love of Art to raise funds for visual arts programs in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

The Art of Found Objects exhibition is free and open to the public April 11 through May 2, 2025, at Miami Dade College’s Hialeah Campus (1776 W. 49th St.), Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
