United Teachers of Dade (UTD) and Kendall Toyota are delighted to present the 2025 Francisco R. Walker Teacher of the Year award recipient, Melissa Abril-Dotel teacher at North Beach Elementary, a brand new 2024 Toyota Corolla as part of her recognition of being honored as the top outstanding educator in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) during the 19th Annual UTD Solidarity Picnic on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at Tropical Park.
The Francisco R. Walker Teacher of the Year award honors the exceptional contributions of teachers across the district, with Melissa Abril-Dotel standing out among the 17,000 educators. This marks the 16th year of Kendall Toyota’s partnership.
UTD will recognize Juan Gabriel Martin from Citrus Grove K-8 Center as the 2024 Rookie Teacher of the Year, celebrating the promising talent and commitment to education among new educators in the district. The finalists for M-DCPS Paraprofessional/School Support Personnel of the Year and Office Employee of the Year will also be recognized.
The Annual UTD Solidarity Picnic celebrates the strength of the union and recognizes the excellence of our union members. Over 3,000 people are expected to be in attendance, including special guest Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. At this year’s event, UTD will award over $14,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors and college students, and classroom assistance grants to educators.
