St. Thomas Episcopal Parish School asked members of its community to drop off their unwanted “trick or treat” candy as part of a drive titled “Operation Candy Corn.”
Incorporating the project into the curriculum, collected candy was bundled in several of the classrooms. Pieces were counted and sorted for math, bags were decorated for art, and notes were written for language arts.
More than 200 bags of candy were dropped off by the St. Thomas Youth Group at Chapman Partnership for Homeless in south Miami-Dade County. The St. Thomas students recognized that the children of Chapman Partnership for Homeless do not have the ability to trick or treat as others do. They wanted to share their Halloween candy, so that those children can also enjoy the holiday.
