Voices For Children Foundation, a Miami non-profit organization working to make life better for children in foster care, recently hosted to its fifth annual “Back to School” event providing some 300 children in the Miami-Dade County foster care system with the uniforms and supplies they need for the new school year.

Foster children between ages 3 and 18, who currently are in the dependency system and represented by the 11th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program, picked up their supplies the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Old Navy, 7220 N. Kendall Dr.

The event was made possible thanks to donations from Old Navy and the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation. Students received up to $100 to select and buy new school uniforms at partner Old Navy at the Shoppes at Dadeland, which provided a special discount for the occasion. Every child also received a backpack, courtesy of Galleria Farms.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide these children with the school clothing and supplies they need, as we have seen in our experience that in addition to getting them ready for school, these items go a long way in helping them feel more confident and excited about starting a new school year,” said Nelson F. Hincapie, president and CEO of Voices For Children Foundation.

“We are extremely grateful to our community partners for enabling Voices for Children to host this event for a fifth-consecutive year.”
