The “West End” takes its first step to join South Florida’s rapidly-expanding reputation for cultural and arts exhibitors, Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 18-19.
West Kendall residents will stage their first community “Arts Fair” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Town Center grounds off N. Kendall Dr. between S. W. 158 and 162 Aves.
Spring-like pastel colors liven the Fair’s first poster, a work by local artist Stephen Gamson who will be on hand to sign free copies, making them an instant collectible for future Fair-goers.
More than 20 community artists and crafts persons will display and offer works for sale in an outdoor gallery featuring entertainment and music, including a special 12 noon performance by the Roxy Theater Group, West Kendall’s theatrical school.
A “Food Truck Invasion” promises a variety of hot dogs and hamburgers, coupled with tapas, tortillas with other Latin-American and Caribbean specialties.
The outdoor fair is planned to become a signature annual event to complement
western Miami-Dade growth in District 11 where Commissioner Juan C. Zapata has initiated possible incorporation zones for at least two West Kendall cities.
Located 18 miles southwest of downtown Miami, the 70-acre Town Center planned as a regional shopping and entertainment complex has become a centralized hub for a quarter-million residents, bordered by West Kendall Baptist Hospital and The Residences, offering senior assisted living.
With 400,000 square feet zoned for retail, the property is currently being offered by Howard Hughes, Inc. for future development to include shopping, restaurants, a theater and professional offices.
