West End tapped for PAMM’s Inside/Out public art project

The West End has been selected as one of three areas in Miami-Dade County that will take part in the Pérez Art Museum Miami’s (PAMM) Inside/Out project, which will bring reproductions of a number of artworks from PAMM’s collection to public parks beginning in September.

Funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the nine-month project will feature 30 reproductions of works by Roy Lichtenstein, Faith Ringgold and Jose Bedia at parks in Hialeah, Homestead and the West End. Each community will have 10 artwork reproductions clustered within walking or bike-riding distance.

The West End locations for the displays will be Hammocks Community Park, 9885 Hammocks Blvd.; Olympic Park, 8601 SW 152 Ave., and Kendale Lakes Library, 15205 SW 88 St. Exact locations of each reproduction will be featured on maps available at host locations and at pamm.org/insideout.

“I’m thrilled that the West End has been selected as one of only three places in the county for this wonderful project. It’s a testament to all we’ve done to put the West End on the map as a culturally vibrant community with our many public art projects over the last few years,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Juan C. Zapata, who represents the West End. “Bringing this program to our parks enriches our residents not only culturally, but also physically. We want the community to take advantage of our bike trails and lush landscape in the presence of art.”

The project will begin during Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5, during which West End residents will receive free admission to PAMM with proof of residence.

Miami is the fourth city to host Inside/Out, which was conceived by the Detroit Institute of Arts in 2010. The Knight Foundation is providing $2 million over three years to expand Inside/Out to communities across the country, including Philadelphia, PA, and Akron, OH.
