West Miami swears in Eric Diaz-Padron as city’s new mayor – making him Florida’s youngest mayor

Following last week’s resounding victory, West Miami’s Vice-Mayor Eric Diaz-Padron was sworn in by Florida Supreme Court Justice John Couriel as the City’s top elected official. After a competitive race, Mr. Diaz-Padron handily defeated incumbent Mayor Rhonda A. Rodriguez 64% to 36%.

The City of West Miami was incorporated on April 7, 1947. West Miami is a quaint bedroom community in the heart of Miami-Dade County. It is also the City where United States Senator Marco Rubio began his political carrier.

Eric Diaz-Padron is an experienced public servant with a proven track record of standing up for West Miami families. As a West Miami Commissioner and current Vice Mayor, Eric Diaz-Padron has consistently demonstrated his commitment to improving our quality of life. As West Miami’s next Mayor, he will continue to fight for lower taxes, stop overdevelopment and improve public safety.

Vice Mayor Eric Diaz-Padron was born in the City of West Miami. He attended St. Theresa Catholic School, Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, and Florida International University before earning a Dean’s Merit Scholarship to attend the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated with honors. Prior to serving on the city commission, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Miami-Dade Transportation Trust, the City of West Miami Charter Review Board, and the Miami-Dade Millennial Task Force.
