Summer is almost over, which means it’s time to start thinking about back-to-school.

According to Boys & Girls Clubs of America, 7.7 million kids and teens are alone and unsupervised after school while nearly 25 million don’t have access to after-school programs.

The 2024-25 school year is starting on Thursday, Aug. 15, and many working Miami-Dade County parents are seeking ways to keep their children engaged after the school day ends.

After-school programs keep children safe, inspire learning, assist with socialization skills and provide working parents peace of mind. Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade offers a fun and enriching Educational After-School Program for Miami-Dade area youth in grades K to 8, Mondays-Fridays, from 2 to 7 p.m.

The programs are offered at six clubs throughout Miami-Dade County including the Hank Kline Club, Gwen Cherry Club, Kendall Club, South Beach Club, Norwest Club and the newly opened Dr. Frederica S. Wilson Club at Skyway Elementary School in Miami Gardens.

After school, youth members can participate in tutoring and homework assistance, STEAM activities, computer training, dance, arts and crafts, sports and fitness, recreation and games, and more in a healthy, safe, productive and enjoyable environment.

The club’s sports and cheerleading program offers seasonal organized sports leagues designed to teach young members the fundamentals of each sport, sportsmanship and teamwork through basketball, baseball, football, cheerleading and tennis programs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s program enables children to learn values such as friendship, honesty and teamwork by providing a safe and secure environment where they can develop into productive and independent young adults.
