In December 2021 the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted the inaugural Badass Woman of the Year Awards. The point of the program is to honor exceptional women in industries that are traditionally dominated by males and that are making a difference in their field.
Seven incredible women were recognized. As part of the recognition they were each honored with $1000 that would be donated in their name to one of twelve local charities for women that they could choose from. One of these organizations is 100+ Women Who Care Miami Beach. Three of the seven honorees chose 100+ Women Who Care.
100+ Women Who Care Miami Beach is an alliance of philanthropic women supporting local non profits in Miami -Dade County. Members in good standing, each commits to donate $100 each quarter. The giving circle meets 4 times a year to listen to presentations from three local charities. The members then cast a vote for the “winning charity” and that recipient is awarded a grant for the total proceeds raised that quarter. At 100 members x $100 each = $10,000! 100% of these funds will be used to expand crucial programs and services to those in need in our community in Miami Dade County.
Thanks to the honorees that chose 100+Women Who Care as their charity of choice at BWOTY, 3 local charities each received $1000. These charities include LEAP, an organization that empowers women who have experienced incarceration through transformational opportunities and advocacy. Every woman who has experienced incarceration but is committed to change will have the opportunity and tools to achieve her full potential. Clean Miami Beach was also given $1000. Clean Miami Beach is a non-profit that hosts regular beach cleanups and educates the community about the negative impact that plastic has on our environment. The third charity that also received the $1000 donation was No More Tears, who also received $10,326 from 100+Women as the Q2 recipient. NMT assists and empowers women that have been victims of human trafficking or domestic violence. The funds they received specifically went to help 2 women that were being sex trafficked get off the streets and into safe harbor.
