Over 400 people attended a luncheon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Miami Beach City Manager Jorge M. Gonzalez.  The event took place on October 21 at Loews Miami Beach Hotel.  Master of Ceremonies was Belkys Nerey and featured speaker was Norman Braman.  This was a sentimental appearance by Belkys as she attended Hialeah High School with Jorge.

Jorge began serving the City of Miami Beach on August 21, 2000 and became the City’s 19th Manager since its incorporation in 1915. He has developed and implemented the City’s strategic planning framework, established a formal planning process and fostering an organizational culture focused on teamwork, performance measurement, effectiveness and out-of the box thinking.

Among those offering their appreciation for his efforts were former Commission Victor Diaz who served on the original selection committee, former Commissioner Saul Gross and Mayor Matti Herrera Bower who referred to him as one of her family.  A video of Community Leaders was presented which demonstrated the City Manager’s widespread appeal.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Jorge M. Gonzalez 10 year anniversary fund through the Dade Community Foundation.  The fund will support programs and services in the Miami Beach Community.
