This year, FIU reaches an important milestone in its history, the 50th year since it was founded. The 14th Annual Torch Awards Gala will both celebrate its remarkable progress and share the vision for the future. Guests will be taken on an inspiring journey as FIU honors its recipients while enjoying fine dining, dancing and entertainment. The event will take place at the Fontainbleau on Saturday, March 28, 2015 starting at 6:30 pm.
In addition to paying tribute to our outstanding alumni, the 14th Annual Torch Awards Gala will support FIU’s First Generation Scholarship Fund and the Alumni Center Building Fund, which will serve as a central gathering space for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends.
More than 50% of FIU undergraduate students will be the first generation in their families to earn a college degree. Philanthropic support to the First Generation Scholarship Fund is matched 100% by the State, making this Fund a critical priority for the institution. Given the fact that 90 percent of Fund recipients are minorities, the proposed gift is a unique opportunity to enhance the university’s ability to effect transformational change in the lives of South Florida’s underserved students.
