4th Miami International Children’s Film Festival Announces Complete Program

The Miami International Children’s Film Festival, (MICFF) presented by the Coral Gables Art Cinema, South Florida’s leading art house venue, will hold its fourth annual event Dec. 24 to 29, 2016 in partnership with the prestigious New York International Children’s Film Festival. A now perennial crowd pleaser after many successful editions, the Festival returns to present a six-day run of highly-acclaimed international cinema for children and families, featuring over thirty-five short and feature length films, with several Florida and Miami premieres.

The Festival offers a unique opportunity to experience a diverse range of fun, compelling, and high-caliber films for children and teens ages 3 to 18, many not otherwise theatrically available to Miami audiences. Highlights of this year’s festival include the critically-acclaimed, animated Oscar contender Long Way North (France/Denmark), which makes its Florida theatrical debut at MICFF. As with years past, the Festival also offers exciting and enriching opportunities for children and families to engage with the Festival throughout the festive six-day run, including hands-on workshops, Family Fun Day on the Plaza, Opening Day Party and more. These events provide South Florida families with fun, meaningful and thought-provoking activities within a safe community setting, during Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ winter break; when families are seeking to fill free-time with experiences that will enhance children’s cinematic experiences.

“We started this Festival to give South Florida children a more diverse selection of films. We are proud of the reception that this global Festival receives and that it returns annually with nearly a week of films and family fun. In a state of the art cinema, it is an opportunity for children and families to see appropriate, thought provoking film. It is both an educational and entertaining” said Midge Blumberg-Krams, Chairperson of Children and Family Programs and MICFF.

The MICFF is an outgrowth of the Coral Gables Art Cinema’s success in specialized family film events, summer film camps and a highly acclaimed first-run art-house exhibition schedule.

MICFF is in partnership with New York International Children’s Film Festival, the largest one of its kind for children and teens in North America, and an internationally renowned, Oscar-qualifying event. Nina Guralnick, Executive Director of New York International Children’s Film Festival, says, “We are delighted to continue our partnership for the fourth consecutive year with Miami to bring the best of this year’s global films to South Florida families.” Additional groups collaborating with this year’s Festival include Miami Girls Rock Camp, Swiss Club America Miami, DaleZine, and Zoo Miami.

Funding for the MICFF comes in part from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; The Funding Arts Network; the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture; the City of Coral Gables; Magna-Tech Electronic Co. Inc.; Continental Film & Digital Labs, Inc.; Brickell Bank; The Village of Merrick Park, and others. A 2012 grant from the Knight Foundation facilitated the inception of the Festival.
