Hope everyone is having a great summer and staying cool! The Chamber has been really active with a lot of programming and activities. As our past chair of the board Michael S. Goldberg would say, “The Chamber never sleeps.”

It’s an honor to announce that we have renamed our “Outstanding Woman in Business Award” to the “Deanne Connolly Graham Outstanding Woman in Business Award, which is announced at our yearly Champions of Business event. Initiated in 2015, this award was started by the Women’s Business Council and recognizes an outstanding woman, who is a leader in the business community. Honorees are recognized for their continued growth, success and for being an inspiration in the Miami Beach community. We are extremely proud that this award will be connected to DeAnne who has always been a Chamber ambassador and one of our strongest mentoring advocates for women in  businesses.

I want to recognize a few of our active council chairs and their events. Our Construction and Development Council was able to secure a special sneak peek presentation of the Deauville project before it was shown at commission the very next day. Shout out to Chair Mark Gemignani and Vice Chair Jeevan Tillit for organizing that. And a separate shout out to Chair DeAnne Connolly Graham, Vice Chair Stephanie Leger and Event Coordinator Cindi George for creating another powerful networking event at Osteria Morini as part of the Chamber’s Summer showcase programming.

By the time you read this, the Teacher of the Year event, which was organized by our Education Foundation will have occurred. Sponsored by the W South Beach and FPL, the event recognizes educators in the Miami Beach Senior High School Feeder Pattern that have gone the extra mile as educators. Unfortunately, this will be the first year that we will be without  Elayne Weisburd for whom this event is named after. A strong advocate for education and our educators, we are thrilled to be able to bring this event back.  Thanks to our sponsors, every dollar that we raised went back to benefiting our education foundation.

For eight consecutive years, the Chamber’s Pillar Board will honor a group of first responders at its Annual Heroes Breakfast on September 16. Presented by City National Bank, this event continues the Chamber’s tradition of recognizing the accomplishments of outstanding individuals doing brave work in the community. The business community gathers and celebrates the bravery of individuals who play a critical role in keeping our communities safe.

This year’s honorees are:

Detective Carlos Corvo

Officer Anthony Yarusso

Sgt. Eduard Delgado

Officer Daniella Moreno

Officer Peter Carballo

Emilio Garcia – K-9 Ares

Brian Rhodes – K-9 Hunter

Samantha Cespedes – K9 Lincoln

And more Miami Beach Firefighters to come…

If you would like to register for our events or learn more about our education foundation, please email info@miamibeachchamber.com or call 305-674-1300.

Best,

Aaron Tandy
