Alan Lips sworn in as new Chairman of the Board

The City of Miami Beach is entering a critical stage and the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce has maintained a strong leadership from local business to assist in keeping the city in the forefront of the economy.

At the 2012 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 2nd the Honorable Katherine Fernandez Rundle, State Attorney for Miami-Dade County, swore in the 2012-2013 Board of Governors, as well as the new Chairman of the Board for 2012-2014 Alan Lips, partner at Gerson Preston Robinson (GPR). Lips is succeeding Jason Loeb, owner of Sudsies, and has worked closely on the Executive Board for the past seven years to strategically navigate the Chamber through the recent economic downturn and lift it to a relevant and impactful level.

“Alan is a man of integrity and strength,” said Aaron Perry, Immediate Past Chairman of the Board. “Over the years he has guided us through some turbulent times and we are very fortunate to have him leading the chamber as we move into our next phase of growth.” Chairman of the Board Jason Loeb added that “his dedication to the Miami Beach Chamber is evident in his leadership.

Alan has been with GPR since he moved to Miami in 1995 and became a partner in 2002. GPR has been a staple of Miami Beach since 1959 when senior partner Gary Gerson started the practice. Gerson received the City National Bank Hi-Tides Outstanding Achievement Award from the Chamber this past year.

Alan devotes a tremendous amount of time to charity and the community. He is a Society member of Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation and involved in the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, JAFCO, Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center and many others. He has served as a member of the Budget Advisory Committee for the City of Miami Beach and is currently a trustee for the Aventura Police pension. Prior to serving as the incoming Chairman, he served as the Chamber’s Treasurer and long term Executive Board member.

“I am so excited to take over as Chairman and follow in the footsteps of great leaders such as Loeb and Perry,” said Lips. “I have truly enjoyed being part of such a dynamic organization that sets itself apart from the others. Success is the real mission of the MBCC. I have witnessed  and experienced the creation of some of the greatest relationships as a direct result of this organization. I am committed to the success of the MBCC and look forward to continued growth and even greater opportunities and benefits for our members.” Added Chamber President and CEO Jerry Libbin, “The staff of the Chamber is excited by the vision outlined by our new Chairman.”

In addition, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce has put together an outstanding group of industry professionals to lead the organization into 2013. The 2012-2013 Board of Governors is comprised of individuals from a wide variety of businesses in South Florida and across the globe who are dedicated to bringing together local and regional business leaders to enhance business development, to nurture personal and professional relationships, to facilitate the exchange of commerce between members, and to preserve the rich heritage of the dynamic business community that exists in and around Miami and Miami Beach
