Located in the heart of South Beach on Lincoln Road, the area’s popular pedestrian mall, ArtCenter South Florida’s Studio Residency Program houses 38 subsidized workspaces for visual artists. Studio spaces range from 175 to 900 square feet and residencies may vary from six months to two years.
ArtCenter is seeking artists who are committed to innovation and experimentation, artistic and professional development and an interest in contributing to a dynamic community of local, national and international artists. With a constant flow of visitors, ArtCenter resident artists engage with the public on a regular basis.
An ArtCenter residency offers opportunities for engagement with art aficionados and collectors as well as a cross-cultural exchange with South Florida-based artists and audiences. The first deadline for submissions is September 30, 2013with subsequent deadlines of January 31 and May 31, 2014.
Exhibition opportunities include two spaces within ArtCenter as well as window exhibition space. Facilities include a darkroom, print lab and common workspace. All studios include Wi-Fi and resident artists have 24-hour access to the buildings. Artists may participate in Studio Crawls held on the first Saturday of the month, and teaching opportunities within ArtCenter’s Art Studies programs are available for artists with previous teaching experience.
Residences are open to professional artists in the United States and abroad who are currently not enrolled in an academic program. Submissions are reviewed by a five-member Artists Review Committee of knowledgeable and esteemed artists and art professionals. Selection criteria include merit of past work, readiness to engage with and benefit from the Studio Residency Program and the potential to further develop an innovative creative practice and impact the community. Finalists are invited for a 30-minute, in-person phone or video conference interview to determine final selections.
