The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce has a rich history just like its members. The picture above, of members of the Segal and Goldberg families, was taken at the Chamber’s recent Champions of Business event and tells the story of three generations of Chamber members working together on Miami Beach.
In 1968, the late Harold J. Segal, a former entrepreneur and real estate broker on Miami Beach, and grandfather to Richard I. Segal, sold a 6 bedroom house on North Bay Road to President of Jefferson Bank, Barton S. Goldberg. The house sold for $48,000 and was the childhood home of Michael S. Goldberg, the Chamber’s current chairman. Shortly after the sale, Barton asked Harold to be on the advisory board of Jefferson Bank. Harold and Barton are honorary lifetime trustees at the Chamber for contributing to a fund that alleviated the Chamber’s mortgage and helped the organization purchase the land the building currently sits on.
Fast forward over four decades later, Michael connects with Richard at a Chamber Pillar Trustee event and they discuss ways Richard can get the most out of his Chamber membership. Eventually this leads to Michael meeting with Richard, along with past Chairman Jason Loeb, and they discuss Richard joining the Emerging Leadership Council, which led him to become current Co-Chair of the Emerging Leadership Council. Michael and Richard only thereafter discovered the above story and the rich history that their families have in doing business together in Miami Beach. Since then Michael, Richard and William have all conducted business together. The Chamber has deep roots in this community going back nearly 100 years and this story is just one example of Chamber members making long lasting relationships with each other.
