The portable solar-powered device known as Gen20 which is currently providing much needed energy and water in Ukraine earned recognition at the Natural Disaster Conference held recently on Miami Beach. In addition to helping in devastated areas of Ukraine, the Gen20 also offers relief for urban, rural, and remote areas around the globe that are served by disaster relief organizations.
The Gen20 was one of six finalists for “Cost Effective Mitigation Product of the Year” from over 300 products at the conference. A product of the PowerPanel line, Gen20 is paired with a UV sanitizing and filtered water system and has generated electricity along with hot-and-cold running water at Ukraine medical facilities. The product’s on-board electrical battery and thermal water storage tank allows for 24-7 availability.
“Our Gen20 system raised eyebrows at the disaster conference due to its ability to pump water and sterilize it due to ultraviolet (UV) light,” explains Rob Kornahrens, one of PowerPanel’s investors who also leads the Advanced Green Technologies solar company. “This product has is delivery much needed recovery for Ukraine and meets strict standards set by the United Nations for water, sanitation and hygiene criteria.”
The Gen2O was developed with specific in field requirements of nonprofit organizations and disaster aid responders for electricity, hot water and clean filtered water. The Gen2O brings comfort and utility even in the most demanding of environments.
“No matter what the environment, Gen20 facilitates in field requirements of humanitarian relief organizations providing basics of survival,” said Garth Schultz. PanelPower’s president and an engineer for the past 38 years. “This increased the popularity of Gen20 with industry-wide attention in addition to non-profit organizations.
Gen2O’s QUAD panel system provides over 2,500 watts of combined electrical and thermal output. It is expandable to meet residential, business and disaster needs. The system may be monitored from anywhere on the globe from a smartphone or laptop. It is optimized for rapid deployment, minimal maintenance and doesn’t require specialized technical knowledge to operate.
One of the disaster organizations at the conference, Good360, deployed Gen2O for Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017. This system still is in use as a reliable water source today for the island.
“I’ve made a point at the conference to introduce the Gen20 team to disaster response organizations including the Cajun Navy since this is an efficient, creative and proactive solution for disaster survivors,” said Jim Alvey, a Good360 vice president. “We have five non-profits we have begun working with in Ukraine and many residents of the country are now returning to their homes. The Ukrainians are resilient and committed to staying. Obviously, more help is needed and Gen20 is a great resource for them.”
