Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

COYO Taco is taking over South Florida, one taco at a time. In theme of their expansion, the trendy taco shop is now open in South Miami in the former Spring Chicken space. Most recently, COYO Taco also opened in Ft. Lauderdale on Las Olas Blvd.

The new destination will feature COYO Tacos’ signature recipes including authentic tacos, burritos, handmade tortillas, aguas frescas, and more served in a traditional taqueria setting prepared with a ‘Todo es Fresco’ (‘Everything is Fresh’) philosophy. Located directly across from University of Miami, this outpost features a sportier theme with surrounding TV’s. Exceeding COYO Taco’s reputation for throwing the best parties, locals and students can also expect irresistible watch parties and unbeatable game day specials. All students and faculty members will also receive 10% off (with proof of ID).

Similar to all their sister locations, a lively atmosphere will boast featuring live DJ’s. The bar will offer an expansive selection of more than 50 tequilas and mezcals and craft cocktails including an ode to University of Miami called, ‘The U’ made with Maestro Dobel Diamante, Midori, pineapple, passionfruit and lime juice ($12). Locals and residents can redeem happy hour offering half-priced select drinks and every Thursday, women can sip complimentary margaritas from 6-7 PM.

Co-Founder, Sven Vogtland shared, “South Miami used to trend older but I see a younger demographic emerging with a great new vibe. The neighborhood is becoming a burgeoning culinary scene and we’re thrilled to open in the middle of it. Last but, not least….it’s great to be a Miami Hurricane!”

Menus will focus on bold, traditional flavors using sustainable ingredients with a variety of home-cooked dishes, fresh tortillas made from scratch, and guacamole prepared in-house daily. Popular dishes include made-to-order Guacamole, Tacos, Burritos and Quesadillas, served with a choice of carnitas de pato, camaron, hongos y huitlacoche and much more. Vegan and vegetarian options are also available including their new plant-based chicken by Daring Foods. From February through April, visitors can enjoy their special edition Birria Taco ($11) made with beef brisket and spiced by guajillo and ancho chilies, cinnamon and oregano served alongside a traditional Mexican broth for dipping.

The interior is filled with blue coated banquets, chairs and a larger half circular booth that fits larger groups. Local artist Juan Rozas also painted an exclusive design inspired by the rich cacti fields of Mexico where string lights will hang from the ceiling. COYO Taco South Miami is located at 1514 South Dixie Highway, Coral Gables, FL 33146. Hours of operation are Sunday-Thursday from 11 AM-10 PM; Friday and Saturday from 11AM – 12 AM. Takeout and delivery will also be available on all major platforms.
