The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM) was founded by Cuban Ballet Dancer Pedro Pablo Pena with the mission to promote and preserve the Classical Ballet Repertoire, technique and style, as exemplified by the famed Cuban School of Ballet. Now under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jimenez, CCBM invites you to the presentation of its spectacular Spring Gala Performance, “Le Corsaire Suite”, Saturday, June 11 /8pm. at the Miami Dade County Auditorium, featuring Cuban Principal ballet stars, CCBM Corp de ballet, beautiful costumes and scenery.
In this classic performance the CCBM will highlight excerpts from one of the most musical and visually exotic ballets of the 19th century. “Le Corsaire” is a tale of swashbucklers, Sultans, princesses, maidens and pirates, with a libretto based on the poem The Corsair by Lord Byron. It was first presented by the Ballet of the Académie Royale de Musique, Paris, France in 1856, originally choreographed by the Ballet master Joseph Mazilier to the rousing music of Adolphe Adam. The ballet has many celebrated passages which are often performed independently – the scene Le Jardin Animé, the Pas d’Esclave, the Grand Pas de Trois des Odalisques, and the most celebrated, the “Le Corsaire Pas de Deux”, among classical ballet’s most exciting, iconic and performed pieces. The CCBM has received many accolades and great reviews from the local and international press.
