On January 20, 2022, the Miami Beach Chamber hosted a ribbon cutting for the grand
opening of OMG! Model Scout Academy at 690 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Receiving a proclamation from the City of Miami Beach, Jan 20, 2022 was pronounced OMG! Model Scout Academy Day in Miami Beach.
Founded by fashion show producer Lea Kiss, a former Sony Music performer, the Academy’s mission is to develop top fashion models and to create the necessary incentives to bring high fashion designers to Miami Beach. With a history of successful fashion shows throughout Paris, including the Eiffel Tower, OMG! will bring designers from Paris to Miami and will bring selected Miami designers to Paris. The student models of OMG! will also have the opportunity to participate in fashion shows throughout Miami Beach and Paris.
Beginning in Paris in 2019, OMG! trains models from Paris and South Florida. Skarla Ali, a former Paris student, was voted 2019 First Face at Miami Fashion Week, and she has gone on to superstar status throughout Europe working with Prada, Fendi, Luis Vuitton, Dior, Valentino, Giorgio, Off White, Armani and Tommy Hilfiger. Skarla was featured during the Academy’s grand opening fashion show, along with Edina McGrath, Ms. Senior Florida. At 94 years young, Ms. McGrath was a crowd favorite!
OMG! trains models of all ages, sizes and gender, and the show was widely diverse with children, plus size and senior models included. The Academy will continue to train models from Paris as well as local South Florida models, and will continue to be diverse. Children, seniors and plus size models of various ethnicities will be part of each class, as well as the future fashion shows planned throughout Miami Beach. “The fashion industry is changing,” says Lea Kiss, “Agencies and designers are more open to embracing a variety of models.”. The Academy is also collaborating with the Miami Fashion Institute at Miami Dade College to showcase emerging designers along with established designers. Additionally, the Academy will be teaching skills needed in the professional world of modeling that often get overlooked, such as financial planning, relationship building, professional etiquette and communication skills.
The opening included live entertainment by the incredibly talented 17 year old singer Aristide Reinoso, who despite his 4 disabilities, wowed the audience with his smooth Sinatra like vocals. Co-emcees DeAnne Connolly Graham and George Neary kept the evening lively while the audience was thrilled with the models who showcased fashion from designers Alberto Ravelo, Island Niche and Ricky Whoms. Sponsors included South Beach Wine, Stella Artois, Ole Ole Steakhouse, Laduree, Advanced Staffing Allies, MATV Media and 305 Candles.
The next show is planned for March 31st. Stay tuned…..
