For the first time ever, architecture festival, Open House Worldwide, will take place on Miami Beach and around the surrounding Miami area on March 1-2, 2024. The festival will include a showcase of Miami Beach’s most notable buildings, design and more, and is free and open to the public, providing attendees access to over 50 individual experiences in 15 distinct neighborhoods with support from 75+ partners. From sandy shores to skyline floors, Open House Miami will unlock the stories, design, architecture, and experiences that define Miami Beach and Miami. Open House Worldwide is a global network, committed to cultivating more transparent, accessible, and inclusive cities and encompasses nearly 60 non-profit organizations and fosters festivals and dialogues about architecture, design, and urban living.
The Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) is a proud sponsor of the debut initiative in partnership with The Miami Center for Architecture and Design (MCAD), the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), and the Miami DDA, along with numerous local partners. This collective effort will honor and celebrate the storied history of Miami Beach and Miami’s architecture and design and influence around the world.
“The first edition of Open House Miami is a prime example of the experiences and activations we support to further engage with our visitors and locals to provide an inside look at Miami Beach as a globally-recognized lifestyle destination with history steeped deeply in innovative design and architecture,” says Grisette Marcos Executive Director of the MBVCA.
The inaugural edition of Open House Miami will explore themes related to Sacred Spaces, Culture, Resilience, Building Miami, Sports, Glamour and Grandeur, and Curiosities and Colorful Past. The program will include workshops and behind-the-scenes building tours, expert lectures, performances, curated experiences, as well as give attendees opportunities to meet some of Miami and Miami Beach’s world-renowned architects.
Miami will become only fourth city in the U.S., joining New York, San Diego, and Chicago, to partake in what has become a global movement to open access to urban spaces and foster citizen engagement in dialogues about their city’s future, celebrating historic design and architecture. Complimentary direct access to a selection of buildings throughout Miami Beach and Miami will offer chances for visitors and community members to connect, learn, and engage in meaningful discussions.
“At the heart of what makes a destination a great place to visit, is that it first has to be a great place to live, work and play,” said GMCVB President & CEO David Whitaker. “Open House will provide visitors and our residents alike, a first-time peek behind the scenes of iconic buildings and venues that were not only instrumental in our history but instrumental in building and defining our brand. A true sense of place begins with the places that shape and reflect our spirit and our heritage, both yesterday and today.”
In anticipation of Open House Miami in March, travelers and locals can begin to discover signature architecture and hidden gems on Miami Beach through the newly launched EXP Miami Beach Tours App, now available for download on both Apple and Google platforms.
