The 7th annual Hope and Recovery Mental Health Luncheon benefitting The Key Clubhouse of South Florida was held recently at the Pullman Miami Airport Hotel and attracted a crowd of more than 250 people who were treated to a “Stand-Up for Mental Health” comedy show.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Event Chair Jeri Cohen and Debra Webb, Executive Director

The luncheon featured David Granirer, who has been teaching comedy to people with mental health issues since 2004 and himself was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at an early age.  Four members of the Key Clubhhouse made their stand-up comedy debuts during the luncheon. The four aspiring comics included Leonel Myrtil, 28; Tamara Burch, 44; Veronica Lallan, 47; and Fernando Garcia, 65.

Originally founded in 2008 by a group of family members and a young woman with bipolar disorder, the Key Clubhouse fills a significant gap in the mental health system by offering opportunities for meaningful work, education, friendships and access to housing in a supportive, caring and dignified community setting.
