When I tell people that I’m a native of Miami Beach, being born at Mt. Sinai Medical Center and raised on Miami Beach, they are sometimes surprised. The demographics of Miami Beach are very different than when I was a child and I’m proud to say that over the years I have seen the positive changes and growth of a City that I truly love. I attended North Beach Elementary School, Nautilus Middle School, and graduated from Miami Beach Sr. High in 1981. My two children Alec and Lauren are also now attending Miami Beach Sr. High School. My childhood and upbringing in Miami Beach is the reason why I am excited about my new position as Chairman of the Board for the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. This is a great, dynamic community to be raised in and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to see Miami Beach go through good times and some very challenging times over the years. My father, Barton Goldberg, always taught me to give back to the community, as he has done over the last 71 years in Miami Beach and lead almost every civic organization, including Chairman of the Board for the Miami Beach Chamber from 1974-1976.
There are issues that we must deal with which effect the quality of life for the residents and business owners of Miami Beach. Flooding, rising tides and the Convention Center Project to name a few. I congratulate our City Manager, Jimmy Morales (also a Miami Beach Sr. High School graduate) for returning to his hometown. Congratulations to our newly elected Mayor Philip Levine, Commissioners Joy Malakoff, Micky Steinberg, and Michael Grieco. I trust that they and the rest of the commission will work hard to tackle the issues we are confronted with to help make Miami Beach a great place for all of us to live, work, and play. We all have a vested interest in the community and need to work together. I look forward to working closely with my board members, membership of the Chamber, and staff to make sure the Miami Beach Chamber continues to play an important role in this process. The Chamber has deep roots in this community going back 92 years, when the Chamber was first established. Our membership has grown to new heights through the active involvement of our members and the benefits offered to them. We welcome you to join us.
