Gemma Berry is a proud member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and a Miami resident. She is the Southeast Regional Director of Operation Smile, an international children’s healthcare NGO that provides free surgery to children born with cleft lips and cleft palates all around the world. She is a dedicated development leader who combines her passion for arts, education and community to help advance the mission of Operation Smile.
“I think most of us feel powerless when faced with the international news headlines that bombard us nowadays. My work with Operation Smile helps diminish my sense of powerlessness by giving me the opportunity to make a difference in a way that directly aligns with my values as a citizen and member of the global community.”
Gemma is committed to building community among donors who are united by their shared desire to help children born with cleft lips or cleft palates. As a humanitarian with a compassionate worldview, she joined Operation Smile’s leadership team with a desire to remove barriers to healthcare throughout the world.
“As the director of development for Operation Smile’s Southeast region, I serve as a liaison between stakeholders at the regional, global and local level. I provide key leadership and financial support for Operation Smile’s business operations, program development and strategic program initiatives,” she stated.
Gemma began her career as a communications specialist for the University of Miami where she was part of a team of writers and development professionals who helped exceed a $1.6 billion campaign goal eight months ahead of deadline. In her previous role as director of advancement and alumni at The Pankey Institute, she led a multimillion-dollar campaign and built the foundation’s advancement division.
As an avid supporter of the arts, Gemma has volunteered with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Magic City Opera as well as several other organizations that expand arts and cultural offerings in Miami.
Gemma enjoys creating meaningful opportunities for donors to engage and connect with Operation Smile so they can make a big impact through their generosity.
