Food insecurity is a persistent challenge that often goes unseen in communities across the country. In Florida, more than 2.3 million residents are currently facing hunger, according to Feeding America, with rates of food insecurity in the greater Miami region outpacing the rest of the state.
As Hunger Action Month approaches this September, DoorDash and Love to Help Foundation are proud to shine a light on their impactful partnership dedicated to tackling food insecurity in South Florida. The innovative partnership between Love to Help Foundation and DoorDash has helped broaden access, powering more than 200 subsidized deliveries of an estimated over 2,800 meals directly to the doors of South Floridians experiencing food insecurity at no cost to them. Through Project DASH, DoorDash’s initiative to empower food banks, food pantries, and other social impact organizations to leverage DoorDash logistics to increase access in their communities, Love to Help Foundation is able to deliver food and other essential items directly to the doors of people in need in a way that emphasizes convenience and dignity.
Since 2018, Project DASH has facilitated 5 million deliveries of an estimated 80 million meals across the U.S. and Canada. Transportation barriers are one of the primary challenges to accessing food for many of our neighbors, making charitable food delivery a key solution in the fight against hunger.
“In advance of Hunger Action Month and throughout the year, we’re proud to partner with the Love to Help Foundation to power more than 200 deliveries to local South Florida families,” said Daniel Riff, Senior Manager, Drive Government and Nonprofit at DoorDash. “Across the U.S. and Canada, local delivery has helped community partners, food banks, cities, and food pantries provide important resources to people in a dignified and convenient way. We’re excited to continue to work with our stakeholders and partners across the country so everyone can join together to meet the need for the long term.”
“Love to Help Foundation has been an anchor in the fight against hunger in South Florida, and many of our community’s most vulnerable have come to rely on our services to put food on their tables,” said Belkis Pimentel, President of the Love to Help Foundation. “Our partnership with DoorDash represents a shared commitment to innovation and compassion to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing our community. Together, we’re working to combat hunger not just during Hunger Action Month, but every day.”
