Local resident Kim Cameron has begun production on her second full length animated feature film using Vanilla Ice to add some spice to her award-winning children’s book and movie series. Cameron released her first Miami Beach-made feature film last December under the Dove Channel who maintains rights for North America streaming services. Positioned as a ‘Dove Channel’ original, Seaper Powers In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure features several local musicians and voice over actors. The movie garnered over 35 film festival awards including Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Trailer, and Best Animated Feature Film.
Toonz TV has picked up the film for both South America and European markets. With the momentum in place, Cameron quickly began working on the sequel. “I wanted to keep the talent local, sort of a ‘Florida Strong’ concept,” explains Cameron. “I reached out to Rob (Vanilla Ice) to see if he might have the time to dive into my newest project. I was lucky, he had just come back from Europe and was in-between some new song releases. He did an amazing job.”
Vanilla Ice plays ‘Steve’ the starfish in the next installment of the Seaper Powers film series. Mystery of Blue Pearls picks up right where the first film stops, but one does not have to see the first to the enjoy the second claims Cameron. “I wrote the screenplay for a slightly older audience than In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure, so I had to make sure it could stand on its own. So far, I think it does,” says Cameron.
Mystery of the Blue Pears is currently slated to complete first quarter of 2023, and yet it has already earned Best Trailer, Best Screenplay and Best Film Score. The movie is about a young woman, Emma, who works for NOAA as a diver and researcher. She is put on a mission to find mysterious blue pearls in the deep Caribbean seas, but first, she needs to call upon her octopus and starfish friends, from the past, to help. Like the first film, the story addresses the need to keep our oceans clean in a fun, and adventurous spirit. There is also an Ocean Drive cameo tucked inside the film.
“It was important for me to highlight the city, my town,” says Cameron. “Afterall, it’s being Directed and Produced here, why shouldn’t the city turn up on the big screen?”
