— October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month —

The City of Miami Beach will light up pink on Saturday, Oct. 1 to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Miami Beach City Hall, Miami Beach Police Headquarters and Fire Station #2 will be among the buildings that will be bathed in pink lights at sundown.

“Every family I know has been touched by breast cancer either directly or through someone very close to them,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez. “The City of Miami Beach stands with all of the survivors and people still battling this disease.”

On Saturday, Oct. 22, a number of the city’s 2,200 employees are expected to take part in the Making Strides of Miami-Dade at LoanDepot Park (formerly Marlins Park) to support breast cancer awareness. The walk begins at 9 a.m.

“We’ve seen great strides in the treatment and survivability of breast cancer,” shared Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak who has been participating in breast cancer awareness events for over two decades. “Yet we still have a way to go until every mother, sister and daughter in this country have access to critical testing and medical care to manage this devastating disease.”
