Miami Beach Launches Bicycle Repair Station Pilot Program

— Providing Cyclists with the Means to Get Back On Their Pedals —

Dubbed the most bicycle-friendly municipality in Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami Beach recently launched a bike repair station pilot program that allows cyclists to fix their bikes on the go. From changing a flat tire to adjusting brakes, the station is complete with all the tools necessary to perform basic bicycle repairs and maintenance along the way.

“In a city that possesses a high number of cyclists, bike safety is vital to the livelihood of our residents,” expressed Miami Beach Commissioner Ricky Arriola. “The new repair station is the latest bike initiative put forth to create a safer and stronger community for our bike enthusiasts.”

Tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, tire levers and air pumps are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel aircraft-grade cables and tamper-proof fasteners. Equipped to handle all types of bicycles, the station creates easy access for minor repairs and tune-ups with featured hangar arms allowing pedals and wheels to spin freely while making necessary adjustments.

Step-by-step instructions are also available to guide cyclist through repairs. Smartphone users can easily scan the code on the station to access a variety of tutorials on how to perform and diagnose bicycle issues.

The first of several stations is installed at 11 Street and Washington Avenue, near the Miami Beach Police Station. The Transportation Department and Bicycle Pedestrian Facilities Committee (TPBPFC) will finalize the location of a second station in North Beach this September. Other potential sites include: Ocean Terrace, Bandshell Park and North Shore Park & Youth Center.
