Not all heroes wear capes – every day local citizens make selfless acts to help their community or country, and they are deserving of All-Star recognitions. The Miami Marlins are teaming up with CITY Furniture and Love, Tito’s to spotlight individuals who are making a positive impact around the city through two initiatives: Hero of the Game presented by CITY Furniture and Community Gamechanger presented by Love, Tito’s.
v Hero of the Game presented by CITY Furniture takes place every Monday home game and looks to honor a member of the United States military (active, veteran, or retired) for their selfless service to the nation.
o During the initiative’s 2023 season debut on April 3rd, Richard McGowan, a retired U.S Navy Reserve Corpsman, 2nd Class who served for 21 years, was honored for his contributions during his tenure. Richard sailed the Mediterranean, North Atlantic, Spain, Italy and many more.
v Community Gamechanger presented by Love, Tito’s takes place every Saturday home game and looks to honor individuals who have made a positive IMPACT on the South Florida community.
o During its 2023 season debut on April 1st, Jackson Kirkland, a local Miami Marlins Foundation Youth Baseball Coach was honored for his recent heroic act where he saved the life of a young girl at a nearby restaurant, utilizing CPR, which he learned through the Marlins.
“With CITY Furniture and Love, Tito’s by our side, we are excited to come together to celebrate our community’s heroes who dedicate themselves to make a difference in our community and country,” said Marlins Chief Commercial Officer David Oxfeld. “Through our shared commitment of supporting our community, we couldn’t be prouder to continue to push these impactful initiatives forward.”
Both recognitions will provide honorees with a VIP experience at loanDepot park, to celebrate their heroic efforts. Fans can nominate the heroes in their lives by visiting Marlins.com/ImpactMoments.
