Miami Parks & Recreation to attend National Legislative Forum

On March 16-18, members of the Miami Parks & Recreation will join professionals and citizens representing 150 park and recreation agencies from 41 states to attend the National Legislative Forum on Parks and Recreation in Washington, D.C. The Jacksonville Recreation and Community Services Department and Marion County Parks & Recreation will also be in attendance.

The National Legislative Forum provides citizens and professionals the opportunity to network, and meet with decision makers in Congress and the Administration to discuss creative ways of addressing critical issues, federal
funding opportunities and legislation relative to:

• Protecting and enhancing the federal investments in public parks;
• Utilizing parks and recreation to increase physical activity and improve America’s health;
• Conserving open space and making public lands available and accessible to all for public use;
• Connecting kids to nature and the outdoors and reducing childhood obesity;
• Revitalizing urban areas and creating livable communities.

Confirmed speakers include Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, Ken Salazar and Deputy Secretary Ron Sims with the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
