Barry L. Skolnick, a prominent local entrepreneur and philanthropist, has been elected as the chairman of the Executive Board of Trustees at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, the largest private, independent, not-for-profit teaching hospital in South Florida, and one of the premier medical centers in the nation.

Skolnick has been a passionate supporter of Mount Sinai since 2013. He later served as vice chairman of the board from 2019 to 2022 and as president of Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation in 2022.

“My family and I are deeply invested in Mount Sinai’s mission and what it means for the growing South Florida community,” says Skolnick. “I am truly honored to accept this opportunity to continue to improve the health and well-being of our residents.”

Skolnick has launched successful businesses in the residential and commercial real estate realm. He is currently owner and founder of Ikonick Holdings, an arts and motor company, home to some of the world’s finest automobiles and an extensive collection of artwork.

Philanthropy was taught to Skolnick at a young age. His late parents, Connie and Allen, instilled in him the Jewish teachings of “tzedakah,” in which charitable giving is a moral obligation. Through the Skolnick Family Charitable Trust, his focus has remained on enhancing medical care, sciences, and education within their beloved community.

Skolnick has always been drawn to Mount Sinai’s mission: “To provide high quality health care to our diverse community enhanced through teaching, research, charity care and financial responsibility.” His dedication and support of Mount Sinai Medical Center has been unyielding, with the pinnacle being the building of the Skolnick Surgical Tower, which opened on the medical center’s main campus in 2019. The building serves as a surgical destination for the community, designed to enhance the patient experience. It also features the most advanced technology on the market for Mount Sinai’s highly skilled surgeons.

An involved member of the South Florida community, and a resident of Miami Beach, Skolnick has generously donated to and participated in numerous charitable organizations and events.

Gino R. Santorio, president and CEO of Mount Sinai Medical Center, praised Skolnick’s commitment and new appointment. “Barry’s leadership and passion to continue to improve the health and well-being of our community reflect the mission of Mount Sinai, and his long-standing involvement in our efforts has been exemplary.”
