Mount Sinai Medical Center today announced a transformational $15 million gift from Kenneth C. Griffin, founder and CEO of Citadel and founder of Griffin Catalyst. The gift supports the new Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center currently under construction on the Mount Sinai Miami Beach campus and the further expansion of world-class care to patients at Mount Sinai Hialeah. In recognition of Griffin’s extraordinary generosity, the Mount Sinai Hialeah location and emergency center will be renamed in his honor.
With a focus on patient-centric care, the state-of-the-art Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center will increase access to clinical expertise, robust support services, research, trials, and the newest technologies. The five-story, 200,000-square-foot, ultramodern facility is designed to provide patients and families with a personalized, healing environment overlooking Biscayne Bay. When it opens early next year, the center will offer a comprehensive hereditary cancer genetics program and dedicated genetics counselors, in addition to extensive research and clinical trial access.
“The South Florida healthcare landscape continues to be transformed by Mr. Griffin’s extraordinary commitment to improving lives,” said Gino R. Santorio, President and CEO of Mount Sinai Medical Center. “His investment in Mount Sinai will help enhance the robust services and expertise offered at the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center. We are proud that our Hialeah Emergency Center will bear Mr. Griffin’s name and serve as a lasting legacy to all he has done to improve and expand the effectiveness of health care in our community and beyond.”
“Mount Sinai Medical Center provides extraordinary care for our South Florida community,” said Griffin. “I care deeply about ensuring that those fighting cancer receive the compassionate care they deserve, and I am proud to support the life-saving work of the transformative Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center.”
In 2018, Mount Sinai Medical Center expanded its South Florida footprint by opening the
freestanding Emergency Center and Primary & Specialty Care offices in Hialeah. The 63,000-square-foot building offers some of the newest facilities in the Hialeah/Miami Lakes area — among the fastest growing communities in Florida. Many of its residents qualify for Medicaid and nearly 20% live in poverty. Since opening in this location, Mount Sinai has provided approximately $35 million annually in emergency charity care, across all three of its existing emergency centers.
