This kid-centric concept combines childhood enrichment, parenting classes and curated retail, all in one modern space. Boasting the most in-demand instructors and sought-after clothing brands, this retail/experiential hybrid was created to make parenting easier.
The female-founded company launched in 2019 in the Design District and, more recently, expanded to Miami Beach’s iconic 1212 Lincoln building in February 2022. (A third location will debut in South Miami in the fall.) Co-founders, moms and entrepreneurs Alana Oxfeld and Cheryl Gonzalez are passionate about being a 360-degree resource for kids and their families in Miami Beach, and beyond.
State of Kid’s hands-on classes are designed for babies, toddlers and kids (up to age eight). There are a variety of themes to choose from, spanning music, dance, art, science and sensory. Popular classes include Jam with Jamie, Red Violet, Tiny Tots Ballet and Miss Nancy’s Petit Chefs. Parents and caretakers can join in on the fun with their littlest ones, as classes for the under-three set are meant to be enjoyed together as a family.
“We have become a destination for parents and children, and we are proud to be a safe and creative way for kids to interact and learn,” says Cheryl Gonzalez, Co-Founder. “We came up with the State of Kid concept to help make parenting easier and it has been incredible to see how we have been embraced by the Miami Beach community.”
With lessons learned from the pandemic, State of Kid has embraced a more fluid hybrid model, mixing drop-in classes with private pods and multi-week courses focused on a single theme, like getting ready for preschool. This summer, State of Kid will host several Mini Camps and shorter group class sessions.
Retail is another essential component of State of Kid’s business. The brightly colored boutique features a stylish collection of clothing, accessories and décor for babies, toddlers and kids. There’s a cool a mix of international brands shoppers won’t find elsewhere, like Hux Baby, Tiny Whales, Chaser Kids, Rylee + Cru, Flowers By Zoe and more. There are also thoughtful books, plush stuffies and sensory toys.

State of Kid also produces and customizes intimate birthday parties and other kid-friendly events in their space. Parents select a signature State of Kid activity, and the party is built around that experience. With relationships with the top vendors and entertainers in Miami, their events team can incorporate add-ons like face painting, balloon twisting, character visits, food & beverage, party favors, decorations and, of course, cake!
State of Kid currently operates two locations in Miami-Dade: Miami Design District (Palm Court – 140 NE 39th Street, Suite 239, Miami, FL 33137) and Miami Beach (1212 Lincoln Road, Suite 203, Miami Beach, FL 33139).
