A new economic fellowship program for high school students interested in entrepreneurship has  been launched by Strive305, a program that supports small businesses in Miami-Dade County,  and Virtutem Populo, a Florida-based nonprofit organization. This one-year fellowship  transforms Miami-Dade students into agents of economic development and opportunity. Student fellows are provided with the opportunity to learn about economics, entrepreneurship, and local  government beyond the classroom.

The program, which will involve working with the Miami-Dade County Office of Innovation and  Economic Opportunity, has selected 13 students from across the county who will have the  opportunity to meet business owners, visit small businesses, attend grand openings, and gain  knowledge of the business world throughout the course of the program. Through this hands-on  experience, students gain a firsthand understanding of how small businesses run day to day,  while also developing a broader perspective on the economic landscape of Miami-Dade County. By engaging with business leaders and local officials, students will learn how essential small  businesses are to our community’s progress and development.

This partnership advances Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava’s broader vision of building an inclusive  economy, one that works for everyone in Miami-Dade County. By ensuring that young people  are at the forefront of our county’s economic progress, the Strive305 and Virtutem Populo  Economic Fellowship Program will help foster the next generation of community-oriented  entrepreneurs. The program equips students with the skills, exposure, and confidence they need  to contribute to the local economy. The fellowship guarantees that Miami-Dade County’s  entrepreneurial future reflects the diversity of the entire community by choosing students from  throughout the county. More than just a learning opportunity, this fellowship plays a vital role in  shaping the economic future of Miami-Dade County. The selected students—a diverse and  dynamic group—are future innovators and entrepreneurs in the making. By working closely with  local leaders and small business owners, they gain insight into how collaboration between  government and business drives community growth and resilience.

While students gain valuable knowledge through this program, they also build meaningful  relationships, sharpen their leadership skills, and see firsthand how entrepreneurship shapes the  real world. This experience lays the foundation for their future success and engagement in the  local economy. By promoting equity and investing in the next generation, the fellowship  provides lasting benefits for the entire community.

The Strive305 x Virtutem Populo Economic Fellowship proves that when young people are given  a seat at the table, they rise to the occasion. As they grow into civic-minded entrepreneurs and  future leaders, their voices will help shape policies, power economies, and push government to better serve its people.

Because the future of Miami-Dade doesn’t wait—it’s already in motion.
