The Houses.com™ Guide to Spring Break 2013 in Miami

We’re more than halfway through March and the final days of winter have passed us by. Its official – Spring break has taken full effect in Miami. This time of year, there’s definitely something for everyone. With South Beach (SoBe) being named a top college Spring Break destination year after year, expect plenty of students from around the globe looking to soak up the sun and enjoy the Miami nightlife.  While Spring Break on SoBe might not be for you, there are miles of beautiful, sandy beaches going north on A1A. So, whether you’re local or travelling here from thousands of miles away, there’s no excuse for not being ocean side with your favorite frosty beverage!

From SoBe to Sunny Isles Beach, here are some fun things to do while you spend your off time in paradise.

South Beach:

While this world-famous destination is great for spending sun-drenched days out by the water, SoBe has so much more to offer its visitors. The dining options are endless. There are plenty of burger joints and upscale restaurants to choose from. Check out Big Pink, an iconic South Beach diner, which does a great job of capturing the local vibe.

For the shopaholics, there are numerous boutiques which offer all of the latest fashions. Get yourself a couple new, trendy outfits for springtime. You also have to attend Miami Fashion Week, which will highlight this year’s trends in international and Latin fashion. This event is being held March 20th-23rd at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Want a great way to get around? Rent a scooter from one of the many scooter rental establishments in the area.  Buzz up and down Ocean Drive while the wind blows through your hair and take in some of the beautiful scenery that this unique place has to offer.

One great way to spend an afternoon in SoBe is to partake in people watching.  You can find all walks of life on the beaches here. There are interesting folks from all over the world and of course, plenty of characters. South Beach was recently named one of the best places on Earth for people watching – take a trip here and you’ll understand why.

When the sun goes down, South Beach really comes alive. There are an abundance of nightclubs where you can dance the night away with your entourage. Some of the most popular clubs in Miami Beach – Mansion and LIV – are always showcasing top-rated international DJ’s. Just remember, getting the VIP treatment is going to cost you!

You may want to take a break from the beach to check out the Home Design & Remodeling Show which is taking place from March 22nd-24th at the Miami Beach Convention Center.  This is the ultimate show for anyone who wants to get caught up on all the latest products and services for the home, ranging from furniture to landscaping.

Sunny Isles Beach and Aventura:

Take a drive up Collins Avenue and eventually you’ll reach beautiful Sunny Isles Beach. The vibe here is completely different from SoBe. You can expect a more relaxed atmosphere and beaches which aren’t as crowded. Get your day started with an early morning yoga class on the sand. Watch the sun rise and listen to all the magical sounds of the ocean. You’ll find numerous high-rise hotels running along the shoreline, including the world-class Trump International Beach Resort. Coming up on March 24th, listen to the amazing sounds of Orchestra Miami as they perform “Beethoven on the Beach” at Heritage Park.

How about taking a sightseeing cruise on the Intercoastal Waterway? If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, charter a deep-sea fishing excursion out in the Atlantic Ocean. There are also some great snorkeling and scuba diving tours nearby.  For those people that just want to unwind and catch some rays, hang out on the beach with a great book to read.

Want to take a break from the water? Just a short drive over the Intercoastal and into the mainland, you’ll be arriving in Aventura. Home to the Aventura Mall, the 5th largest shopping mall in the United States, people come here from around the world to shop till’ they drop. For all the golfers out there, Aventura is well-known for the amazing Turnberry Isle Golf Resort. Test your skills with two 18-hole championship golf courses to choose from. There are also some great world-class restaurants to enjoy after a long day on the greens.

What are you waiting for? If you’re thinking about spending your Spring Break in Miami, there are plenty of vacation rental houses to choose from. This is a great solution for accommodating larger groups or families. Instead of staying in a cramped hotel room, you can relax in a one-of-a-kind villa which is fully-furnished and catered to your needs.
