Beach Gym Gives its Neighbors a Free Workhout

The owners of Symbio want to get to know their neighbors.

Symbio, the new gym at 1815 Purdy Ave.,plans an open house on Saturday, March 26 to celebrate its arrival. Miami Beach residents will get to check out the space, test the equipment, meet the trainers and learn about Symbio’s wellness center – for free.

“Symbio is new to the neighborhood. I think the best way to get to know your neighbors is to invite them over,” said John Self, manager of Symbio and longtime Miami Beach resident.

Symbio, a locally owned gym, moved into the space above the Purdy Lounge earlier this year. The gym features all-new Cybex fitness equipment, group exercise classes, spinning and a state of the art wellness center featuring nutrition, rehabilitation and clinical testing.

Symbio’s wellness center features a metabolic test that will help trainers create customized programs designed for individual needs. The gym’s exclusive BioFit Program will gauge of a person’s physical state.

“At Symbio we believe you can only manage your health if you understand your body,” said Bill Cortright, co-owner of Symbio and founder of the BioFit program.

Cortright will give Miami Beach residents a tour of Symbio’s wellness center and testing area. Already, the gym works with doctors from Jackson Memorial Hospital and their patients. Using the BioFit Metabolic Test, Cortright is able to manage conditions like heart disease, diabetes and hormonal imbalance.

“Every body is different, and our testing and training will help us better meet the needs of our clients. Gone are the days of one class, one nutrition plan for everybody,” Cortright said.
