Letter from the Chair

The Convention Center…to improve or not to improve … that is the question! Well sports fans, let me tell you that this is not an option. The planned improvements to the Convention Center are necessary for the future of our vibrant community. Our world here in this great city thrives on tourism; tourism is the economic driver of our dynamic city. The world comes here to stay and play, and we all have a choice to ensure that this continues. The experts have made it clear that an improved convention center and hotel will draw far bigger and better conventions than currently possible. This means more heads in beds, which drives the balance of our exciting urban beach economy. Microsoft said it loud and clear over 10 years ago – they are not coming back unless the facility is upgraded. Our city has grown, and in order to ensure our future, we must move this development forward. With the proper facilities, conventioneers would choose Miami Beach over virtually any other venue. In case you haven’t noticed, the world meets here and the numbers don’t lie.

Our community has been fortunate to have two world class developers spending tremendous amounts of time listening and developing solutions to accomplish our convention center goals. The community has the chance to be heard. Time is running out, so I encourage you to speak up now. Speak to our Mayor and Commissioners to share your thoughts and ideas. They are there to listen and lead.

We are one community with one goal…to make this a better place to work, play and live. This is the mission of our Miami Beach Chamber. I encourage you to get involved and experience the power of membership!

Alan A. Lips
