Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services)
recently announced that it was awarded a $75,000 grant from PetSmart
Charities to prepare more homeless kittens in Miami-Dade County for
adoption.
Nearly 10,000 pets are adopted at the county’s Pet Adoption and
Protection Center and satellite locations every year. Through this grant,
PetSmart Charities continues to support Animal Services’ lifesaving
mission caring for more than 1,000 of the most vulnerable pets in county
shelters — orphaned neonate kittens.
“Helping a neonate kitten grow from a helpless baby into a healthy, loving,
playful companion is an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Bronwyn
Stanford, Animal Services director. “Our compassionate staff and foster
volunteers work diligently every day to help these kittens. We are grateful
to PetSmart Charities for their thoughtful support.”
The grant is part of PetSmart Charities’ commitment to make the world a
better place for pets by investing in community partners that advocate and
care for the well-being of pets and those who love them. With a year-round
warm climate and a longer neonate season in Miami-Dade County, the far-
reaching impact of this grant cannot be overstated.
“Partners like the Miami-Dade Animal Services Department do an
incredible job caring for lost, lonely pets,” said Heidi Fulcher, senior
adoption grants manager at PetSmart Charities. “But our utmost priority is
placing pets in the best place possible — home. We’re proud to support
their heroic efforts to care for the most vulnerable of our citizens, tiny
newborn kittens.”
