Miami-Dade County Animal Services, in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places is calling on the public to donate figurines, decorative objects, memorabilia and other “tchotchkes” that represent our beloved dogs and cats.
The collected objects will be used by internationally recognized artist Carlos Betancourt and architect Alberto Latorre as components of a monumental sculpture called Splendor in the Shelter that will define the lobby of the new Animal Services Adoption Center currently under construction at 3599 NW 79 Ave in Doral and expected to open this winter.
The artists are looking for objects that will help them realize the creation of a sculpture that is greater than the sum of its parts.
There are a few guidelines and limitations:
- Objects made from only the following materials can be used; plastic, ceramic, wood, glass, plaster, lightweight metal.
- The minimum size of any object is 10 inches and the maximum size is 36 inches in any direction.
- Objects that cannot be used include anything made from fabric or cloth, such as stuffed animals or animal clothing.
