The School Board of Miami-Dade County approved three items proposed by Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman at yesterday’s regular monthly meeting including a resolution proclaiming April 2015 as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month; an endorsement of April 19-25, 2015 as Administrative Professionals Week; and  recognition of the winners of the 2014 WalkSafe Statewide Poster Contest.

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools recognizes the unfortunate existence of child abuse and neglect in our society today, calling on the community to address and monitor prevention programs.  Our school district also joins thousands of people in recognizing and appreciating the values and contributions of administrative staff professionals to the workplace,” said Ms. Hantman. “It is important that we also recognize and create public awareness of the importance of improving pedestrian safety by teaching students safe walking skills.”

The Board unanimously voted to:

  • Approve resolution proclaiming April 2015 as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month;
  • Endorse April 19-25, 2015 as Administrative Professionals Week and April 22, 2015 as Administrative Professionals Day; and
  • Recognize the winners of the 2014 WalkSafe Statewide Poster Contest: Grades K-1 Claudia F. Hernández, 1st grade, at Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center; Grades 2-3 Elizebeth Perdomo, 3rd grade, at Oliver Hoover Elementary; and Grades 4-5 Samarra Frazier, 5th Grade, at Caribbean Elementary.
