Eight (8) years ago, I joined the City and other colleagues, and together we began a journey to transform this community. We looked at what was, and envisioned great possibilities for this City. Through sound leadership, we made tremendous progress for the residents of Miami Gardens. As you travel throughout the City, you can observe that progress. You can observe the renovations and improvements at our parks and public spaces. They are being transformed into environments where Miami Gardens youth can explore and partake in programs of their interest. Our youth will have an array of programs to join such as performing arts, STEM, robotics, gymnastics, snorkeling, scuba diving, football, boxing, archery, soccer, and other alternative sports. As a City, we are purposed to provide our youth with every opportunity for engagement and productivity, especially during their time outside of school. Young adults should have opportunities to transition from high school, and/or post-secondary education to gainful employment that provides a livable wage and growth throughout their professional careers. As I serve the City, I will continue to foster partnerships that support these young adults and other residents through the City’s economic development and job creation initiatives. It is our goal to attract and retain talented young professionals to make Miami Gardens their hometown of choice.
We are also excited about the current construction of our Senior Family Center. Miami Gardens’ seniors will have a place to enjoy time with their family and friends. They’ll have their own dedicated space for fun programs, activities, community events, and senior housing and amenities. Miami Gardens’ seniors deserve the best, and as Mayor, I will ensure they receive nothing less. As we continue to experience economic development within the City and the expansion of housing opportunities, we will also ensure public safety remains a top priority. To increase public safety, we will continue to invest in our model of community policing where we recruit new officers from our own community who we know can better serve our residents.
COVID-19 remains a key priority for the City of Miami Gardens to protect our residents. The pandemic continues to be a challenge, and has altered our lives significantly. We must not let our guards down. It is up to all of us to unite in a common bond, and purpose to stop the spread of this deadly virus. Remember to avoid large gatherings, stay socially distanced, and make sure we wash our hands and wear our masks when in public. I look forward to serving this great City and working with you for the betterment of our community, making Miami Gardens a proud place for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Let’s finish what we’ve started!
Please stay safe.
Mayor Rodney Harris
