Safety, Transparency and Faith
With our new Council and our new Mayor, we have a dynamic group of people. We’re going to work extremely hard on behalf of the people of the City of Miami Gardens. I’m just honored to be a part of the team.
As the youngest out of the bunch, I think I bring a crazy energy to the Council. You can’t stop me, I’m a millennial. We can’t be tamed! I’m just excited about bringing that energy to the Council.
I’m a Pastor. I’ve been in ministry for over 15 years. I serve my congregation and I’m bringing that same passion, energy and drive to the City Council to serve our residents.
This is all about service to me. This gives me an opportunity to serve on a bigger scale, and reach those who may never be in the four walls of a place of worship.
The Police and the Community
We are experiencing fairly low crime rates right now, and I want to continue working to keep it that way. I want to encourage our community — “when you see something, say something.”
We have residents that took the initiative to create crime watch committees. It is important that our police department and City staff support these groups. Law enforcement cannot be everywhere at every minute of the day, so we should facilitate the residents who are doing safety groundwork within their own areas.
Our police department is doing a fantastic job building relationships within the community.
One of the first things I did upon my appointment to the Council was to request a meeting with the police department. Our Chief and her team are adamant about “Coffee with a Cop” — going to Burger King with cops, sitting down, talking and really creating a relationship with the people they serve. I’d like to continue working to close the gap between the police department and the community.
Transparency
It is very important that our constituents know what’s happening within the government that affects their day-to-day lives; that they’re aware of the benefits and what the City has to offer. The City has many programs in place; however, some residents are unaware. Transparency about processes and services is critical in solving this challenge.
