Entrepreneurship and Our Uniqueness
As a woman entrepreneur, I’m a team player and a consensus builder. I understand unique entrepreneurial needs and I will certainly bring those skills to my role on the Council. I’m also a woman of faith.
When I think about the new administration on a national level, I think about them wanting to be more inclusive. We need to see that reflected here in Miami Gardens. I want to work with our residents to continue to move the City forward, and build on what has already been done.
Continuing Senior Support
One of the initiatives that I’m passionate about is continuing to support our seniors. There’s a proverb that says what an elder can see lying down, a young person cannot see standing up. I think we should continue to celebrate those who have paved the way for us.
Our annual Senior Prom allows our elderly residents to feel special. I want to certainly continue that effort, even in the age of COVID-19. During the last Senior Prom, we hosted a drive-through event to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols. Over 400 families benefitted from the festivities and the meals were able to provide.
The Legacy of Economic Development
About ten (10) years ago, I started a mentorship initiative called 100 Women of Virtue. The program teaches young women how to be entrepreneurs and how to build capacity, not just in business, but also for their families and their communities. I believe in Miami Gardens we have a melting pot of talent. Not everyone is going to be interested in a nine to five job.
We need to harness the talent of those residents interested in creating their own businesses.
I want to continue the legacy of the economic development that you see going on around the City. That’s definitely at the top of my list.
We Are Special and Unique
In my area the Historic Bunche Park, we’re getting ready to open the state-of-the-art park facility. I want to play an integral role in ensuring that our residents understand that they have a jewel within the district.
I will carry out my duties as a Councilwoman with the same passion I have for engaging with residents. I want every resident to feel special and unique, no matter where they come from.
