To say the coronavirus pandemic has been as disruptive as it has been tragic would be a major understatement for the still new century. In fact, it has been the worst in a hundred years and we in the city of Miramar have not been spared. While our figures for deaths and infections have not been the worst, we can not deny that our residents have been seriously impacted through loss of jobs and general dislocation.

It is for that reason why I was ready and willing when our Parks and Recreation Department asked if I would collaborate and host our bookbag giveaway on July 24, 2021.

This was a tangible way to assist parents who have been seriously affected by job losses, fewer hours at work and changes in how utilities are used and how to pay for those increases where they occurred.

So, I was pleased and honored really, to support the drive to help the younger ones, pre-K to fifth grade with the gifts of bookbags with useful supplies to assist families when school reopens any day now.

I want to also express a special thanks the young volunteers, especially, and the others who helped to make our event a success. And as ever, this success was only guaranteed by our always efficient and professional staff members from Parks and Recreation in the main but also Utilities et al.

To our residents, thanks for allowing me to assist in any way I can in helping you all to navigate a very challenging time in our city’s history.
